Dorothy Jean Samuels

Dorothy Samuels was born in Rosebud, Texas, on December 2, 1943, to Charlie James Smoots and Venetta Williams. The couple had four children together: Rosetta, Dorothy, Charles, and Ruby. The family moved from Rosebud TX to Plainview TX in 1950, where Dorothy attended Booker T. Washington School. Dorothy (Jean) Samuels met Johnny Dale Samuels in 1961. They later married at the Minster of Gospel Church in Denver, CO. Dorothy (Jean) had four children: Beverly, Dale, Angela, and Kinsa. Before retiring, Dorothy (Jean) worked at Rose and St. Joseph Hospital for many years. Dorothy (Jean) enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially on holidays and birthdays. It was her loving spirit that made everyone feel welcome. Aside from being a jack of all trades, she also had a number of hobbies, including playing cards and cooking. Throughout her life, she demonstrated so much passion, love, and affection for her family. Her family always came first and she would fight for anyone who needed her. On October 17, 2022, Dorothy (Jean) Samuels peacefully passed away at home surrounded by her family. Her legacy of love will live on in those left to cherish her memory. She was preceded in death by her husband Johnny Dale Samuels, her parents Charlie James Smoots and Venetta Adams, her stepmothers Berlene Green and Patricia Smoots, brothers Charles Julius Smoots (along with wife Janie), and Author Adams, sisters Darlene Smoots, and sister-in-law Janet Smoots (wife of Kenneth Smoots). There are several living relatives who will cherish her memory, including stepfather Fred James Adams, sister Ruby Smoots-Harris, Rose Williams, Linda Campbell, as well as Kenneth Smoots, Kenneth (wife Penny) Adams, and Glen (wife Terry) Adams. There are four loving children: Beverly Cisse, Dale Samuels, Angela Samuels, and Kinsa Samuels. Her nine grandchildren, Amonika Samuels, Jazmin Williams, Jared Gunn, James Johnson, Dale Marie Samuels, Jessie Stephenson, Cha’Taya Samuels, Patrick (PJ) Patterson Jr., Ty-Ray Whitfield, and 12 great-grandchildren. If Dorothy (Jean) were here today, she would tell you not to cry for me, because I am still here. Despite my soul's rest, my heart lives on. In your aching hearts, know that the days and hours of pain are over. Remember, goodbyes aren't forever, they aren't the end. It simply means I'll miss you until we meet again.
